Is therapy for me?

Therapy is for everyone! With that said, everyone should get a mental health check-up at least once per year. It’s a good way to identify areas that may need change. The great thing is, you will have a professional right there to guide you if you need some work.

In some circumstances, your therapist may not be for you… and that’s okay. Once you or your therapist realize that the therapeutic relationship is not a good fit, that doesn’t mean it’s the end of your therapeutic journey. It just means you need someone who is better suited to help you reach your goals. Staying with a therapist who isn’t your match does more hurt than harm. It’s okay to find another therapist. Never stop working on you!

Do you offer consultations?

I offer a 30 and 45-minute consultations either by phone or telehealth appointment. During the consultation, we will discuss my practice policies, as well as questions or concerns you may have about my treatment approach, and the therapeutic process. If you choose the 45-minute consultation, you’ll be administered screening assessments based on your presenting concerns. If it’s best for you to work with another provider, I will provide a referral.

How long do I have to be in therapy?

Everyone has distinct needs, and respond to situations in different ways. There’s no real way to tell how long you will be in therapy. Therapy is a process… Be open to giving yourself the time you need to become the best version of you.

How long are therapy sessions?

Your intake appointment lasts 60 minutes. During this time, I ask in-depth questions about your background and what brought you to therapy.

After the intake, we will arrange your therapy appointments. Therapy sessions are 50 minutes. This is the time where you give yourself permission to care for yourself, and begin implementing healthy habits and routines. Therapy is your special appointment to align your heart and mind!

Can children receive telehealth therapy services?

I meet with parents/guardians via telehealth appointments. However, teletherapy is more appropriate for individuals ages 14+. Younger children require hands-on interaction via play therapy, and are best served in a face-to-face format.

How old are your youngest clients?

I see client’s as young as toddler ages. At this stage of development, I heavily engage parents in therapy to support improvement in the parent-child relationship, in the home environment. Early childhood mental health consultations are available for behavior modification strategies in child care settings.

What therapeutic interventions do you use?

I use EMDR, cognitive behavioral therapy, play therapy, and person centered therapy.

EMDR incorporates mindfulness, eye movement, or tapping techniques to help you better process distressing experiences, so that you can improve the way your mind and body respond to difficult memories and events.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy focuses on reframing negative thought processes, and helping clients view situations from a healthy point of view.

Play Therapy is used to engage children and adolescents at their developmental level. Games, worksheets, and a variety of other activities are implemented to aid in emotional healing. Play therapy is great for adults too!

Person Centered Therapy allows the client to take an active role in the therapy session. This typically involves the therapist acting as a non-directive support, asking thought provoking questions to help lead clients to a solution.

What are the benefits of self-pay?

Some of the best benefits of paying out-of-pocket are:

  • No diagnosis on your medical record

  • Privacy of your health information

  • Provided services may be tax deductible

Therapy sessions are already a sacred space. You get to maintain a higher sense of privacy without needing to have a health insurance company involved.

How do I pay for therapy sessions?

Cash, check, credit card/HSA, PayPal, CashApp, Zelle & Venmo.

Are you available for workshops?

Yes. My topics include: early childhood mental health, general mental health care, boundary development & healthy communication, depression, anxiety, child/adolescent therapy, school-based therapy, and maternal mental health. Contact me if you would like me to present at an event!

What should I expect with therapy?

Therapy is your confidential, reserved time with your therapist. Throughout the process, you can expect to experience a variety of emotions that range from anger and sadness, to excitement, and feelings of accomplishment.

With dedication and persistence, you can expect to reach the goals you set. During therapy sessions, you may experience emotional discomfort. When that happens, I am here to guide you through, and assist you with developing the necessary coping skills to help you strengthen your resilience.

Overall, my role is to equip you with what you need to manage the challenging circumstances in which you may find yourself. You can expect me to listen, understand, be honest, nonjudgemental, unbiased, and to support you in achieving emotional independence.

My hope is for you to make, and keep the commitment to yourself to become healthier. Therapy is a team effort that truly depends on you. I am your teammate who is part of your support system.

Everything you learn in therapy is meant for you to apply to your life, and practice so you eventually won’t need therapy. Though the therapeutic process does not have a time limit, it is not meant to last forever. That’s not a bad thing… It just means you’re growing, and that’s what I look forward to witnessing!

What are good supplements that go along with therapy?
